A few months ago I was sitting on the beach thinking about what it is that the person I serve in my business really wants. There’s a long list of things that can really be summed up in a few words–they want to become known. They want to be known as an expert in their field, they want to be known for making a difference, they want to be recognized for their gifts. But there are some barriers to becoming known that block them from moving towards that goal.

4 Barriers to Becoming Known You Can Totally Overcome

Is that you? Can you relate to the feeling of wanting to be heard but feeling like there’s something totally blocking your voice and net of influence? This blog is for you.

Here are a few barriers to becoming known you can totally overcome.

1. Overwhelm due to a crowded industry.

In any career you decide to pursue, there are going to be a lot of people in your industry. The idea of becoming known in a market place that is already crowded with people doing the same thing can feel pretty daunting but you can’t let a crowded industry stop you from stepping into the spotlight.

There will always be people out there pursuing the same goals as you. Let that encourage and invigorate you instead of discouraging you. If your peer has managed to make themselves known inside of a crowded industry then you totally can too.

Focus your efforts on just taking one step after the other, breaking things down into small achievable goals.

2. Not stepping out of the shadows.

If you’re hiding out in the shadows not sharing your work or your life with the world then there’s no wonder why nobody knows who you are and what you do.

There’s undoubtedly a lot of layers to this one. Whether you’ve been hit with the ‘Who Am I?’ syndrome, the fear of criticism or the worry of rejection, hiding in the shadows is not doing you any favors.

I’m not going to lie to you. With the ‘known-ness’ that I have, I’ve already been called names and put down multiple times online. Being seen definitely opens you up to a whole lot of hate and criticism. But don’t even worry about it!

A persons opinion of you is none of your business.

3. Fear of being known too well.

If you’re worried about what will happen if you become too known then you need to just slow your roll. I know you’re likely fearing that criticism and judgement again but what about all the good stuff?

Imagine a life where you can easily attract collaborations and opportunities. Imagine a life where you have the chance to give back to your community. Imagine a life of financial freedom and abundance.

Fear of success is a real thing! I’m totally not knocking it. But I can think of many more reasons why becoming known is more valuable than staying in the shadows.

4. Having an unclear message.

You want to become known for something but that something isn’t even completely clear to you let alone anyone else. We need other people in order to become known, so what do you have to offer other people? What is the one thing that you want to help your audience with?

When you clarify your message and begin talking about it in a clear and concise way people can begin to identify us with that one key thing.

Think about some of your known people. What are they known for? Is it multiple things or just one main thing?

You become known because people associate you with one thing. What’s the one thing you want to become known for? Let me know in the comments below!
