In this post, we’re talking about having faith in yourself despite doubt, because you belong, your dreams are valid, your work is worthy, and you are definitely someone worth knowing!
A couple of years ago I was sitting in front of my laptop screen. My eyes were bloodshot, I had a raspy voice and I remember being so tired. At the time I was working a full time job at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami Beach and I was trying to build an online business. Most mornings I would get up at 4 o’clock in the morning to work on my business and then head to my day job for the next eight hours. Upon arrival home I would sit back in front of my laptop and work through until about 11 o’clock at night. I had invested in all types of business strategists and marketing specialists and courses and programs all trying to teach me how to build a successful coaching business.
I was spending more in credit card repayments each month than I was on my household expenses and was going through a very difficult period of time in my marriage. One night I received an email from my bookkeeper that read “Candis the way things are looking, you’re not going to be able to afford rent next month. Maybe you should think about getting another job”.
I remember reading that email and feeling so defeated. I was working 19 hours days, I was trying harder than I ever had, and I couldn’t work any harder. So in that moment I decided that I wasn’t going to. I looked up at the sky and I said “God, I have given it all I’ve got. It’s your turn.” Over the next few weeks, I completely surrendered. I worked less than I ever had and the following month I generated $8,000 additional income and I lived to see another day in Miami beach apartment. I got a little bit of faith back in myself and in the universe.
When I began to lose faith in myself these perspective shifts helped me to overcome doubt, realign with my purpose and continue working towards my dreams.
There is no dream that’s placed in your heart that cannot be fulfilled.
Einstein said, imagination is everything. It’s a preview of life’s coming attractions. You have to dream. If you have a dream, you have it for a reason, so you have to keep faith in your imagination and its purpose in your life. So what you want is coming to you. You have to believe that your imagination does not lie to you.
You are a co-creator.
There is only so far that you can go on your own. When you rely entirely on yourself, on your own skills and your wishes, you’re eventually going to lose steam, just like I did. But when you begin to understand that you are in a co-creative experience with the universe, with a power that’s greater than you, a power that leads you towards inspiration, then you can begin to surrender, to relax into the signs and to make decisions that are rooted in divine guidance. How can you not believe in yourself when you, when you are co-creating with a power that is far greater than you?
It’s not all about you.
I began to lose faith in myself when I forgot that the work that I do is not about me. As a creator and coach, I’m here to guide other people towards more intentional, whole and expressive lives. But there have been times when a focus on materialism has made me lose my way. And when you believe that life or work is entirely about you, then your focus is going to become misguided. We’re all here to be of service to each other in different areas of our lives. And as long as we remember that we can be in full service and remain faithful in ourselves.
I want to take a pause here and ask you a question. What perspective shifts are helping you to have greater faith in yourself? Comment below and let me know.
Confidence comes with action.
I’ve made the decision to commit to mastery in all areas of my life, from work to relationships, to finances, to health. And every time I make a decision to act despite self-doubt, I feel that little bit more confident.
What I’ve felt before I can feel again.
There are always going to be times when you feel more confident than others, when you feel more assured that you’re heading in the right direction. Sometimes the more you know, the more you watch and compare yourself to others, the more educated you become about something… the more you doubt yourself, the more you actually see gaps in your own understanding. Sometimes you just have to go back to a time when you felt confident and faithful and assured of yourself.
I hope that you’ve found my story and these perspective shifts to be incredibly useful. I’ve found that a faith in yourself comes from a deep knowing of who you are and what you’re here to do on this earth and so I created a 4-page guide with 57 self discovery questions to guide you in your journey.
