Running and growing an online business has become somewhat of an obsession for me lately. I spend many of my waking minutes thinking about business, eyes glued to my computer and my smartphone. The other day as I pushed though a raging headache to write my 70-something blog post in the past 2 and a half months I realized I needed to ease up a bit. But this blog isn’t about easing up, it’s about things to become obsessed with in your online business.
Because if you want to grow a business, expand your influence and have an impact then you have some work to put in. But just because you’re working obsessively doesn’t mean you are making progress.
So what are 3 things to become obsessed with in your online business?
Being helpful to your audience.
Many online business owners are so obsessed with their follower count or the size of their community that they forget to actually nurture the relationships that they already have.
Remember that your people count, no matter the size of your list or following. You may only have 10, 20 or 1,000 followers but be sure to serve the heck out of those people!
When you become obsessed with helping people you place yourself in the forefront of people’s minds and position yourself to reap the benefits that brings. I know people with small lists and followings that are making bank as a result of how helpful they are to their audience and how well-known they have become within their community.
I also know people with hundreds of thousands of followers that are struggling to make end’s meet because they have positioned themselves as the hero in a story that no-one cares about.
Being helpful to your peers.
You may hear the word collaboration thrown around a lot, but what I’m really talking about here is just being helpful with no ulterior motive.
Share the work of your peers, show support when they’re promoting a new product or service, and just genuinely be interested in connecting with them as people.
I’m of the belief that there is enough to go around. There are enough clients, enough money and enough inspiration so choose to see your peers as peers and not just the competition.
Learning and developing your skills.
There is always something new to learn. Don’t let that frighten you, let it be fuel! The online world is constantly changing, just as you are constantly changing.
Commit to growing in your field and refining your skills as an teacher, leader and entrepreneur.
At any given time I am enrolled in a course, reading multiple books and looking for my next workshop. Learning is a non-negotiable part of my business development and my life as a leader, and I am energized by that.
Become obsessed with learning and refining your skills, and make your online business as brilliant on the inside as it is before the sale.
