Sometimes it can feel super tough working for yourself. Your income fluctuates, loneliness can set in and then there’s the issue of having to handle all the technical aspects of your business. If you’ve clicked over to this blog post then perhaps times are a little stressful right now and you need a reminder of why you work for yourself.

6 Timely Reminders Of Why You Work For Yourself

Well if the flashback to the overtime shift you didn’t consent to working isn’t enough to jolt you back into business owner bliss then let me hit you with a few more reminders.

When times get tough remember these few reasons why you chose to work for yourself.

1. When you work for yourself nobody else gets to dictate your time.

One of the best parts about working for yourself is the freedom of time! Gone are the days when you have to check in with your boss about taking the weekend off to visit your family or negotiate your trip abroad with everyone else’s vacation time.

You’re no longer expected to stay overtime without being asked and having your schedule written for you is a thing of the past.

2. When you work for yourself you can dress however the heck you want.

The day my boss told me to put on lipgloss is the day I truly realized that my work life would not be dictated that heavily by another human being. It was the day I fully understood that operating under someone’s rules was never going to work for me.

You want to wear a tank top and flip flops to work tomorrow? Do it. Want to go pants-free today? Do it. Dye your hair blue, pierce your nose, get a tattoo on your face or wear a mini-skirt. It’s up to you when you work for yourself.

3. When you work for yourself you get to work doing things you’re passionate about.

I don’t know the statistics but you only have to talk to 10 of your closest friends to realize that most people hate (or have a strong disdain) for their jobs. So many people are conditioned to believe that hating their work is just a part of the human experience. Lucky you aren’t one of those people!

You understand that when you work for yourself you have the joy of doing work that you love and are passionate about. You’ve created a job designed especially for you!

4. When you work for yourself you contribute to society by creating jobs.

Someone once asked me why I wanted to have my own business and part of the reason is so that I can provide jobs to the marketplace. What an amazing reality to be able to provide opportunities for work! How cool to be able to support people to look after themselves while providing a fun and purpose-filled workplace!

5. When you work for yourself you can change things up whenever you like.

If at any point you look at your business and realize you’re not 100% happy with what you’ve created then you have the freedom to change things up! You’re not bound to doing things any particular way and as your own boss you make the rules.

Truth be told, your business will very likely evolve over time and I personally think that’s a good thing! When you work for yourself you can changes at any moment.

6. When you work for yourself you have freedom to work wherever you want.

This is particularly true if you’ve chosen to build a business that operates on the internet, but also a brick and mortar store gives you the freedom of working from wherever you like given the right staffing. Want to work from a cafe, the beach or on the other side of the country? Well that’s totally up to you!

7. When you work for yourself you’re forced to constantly grow, learn and develop professionally (and personally!).

When you work for yourself there are always going to be things to learn and refine. One part of having your own business is that knowledge of the market and new trends are totally on you. Staying up-to-date and relevant in your chosen industry is necessary and in turn you are in a constant state of bettering yourself.

What an awesome thing to know that your business forces you to stretch and grow into a better person both professionally and personally.
